ABOUT US
The department of microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University which was established in 1971 (B.E. 2514) has its origins on the 2nd floor at the chemical building (the old one) in the Faculty of Science. The purpose of founding was to serve students of the Faculty of Nursing, Agriculture and Education. The lectures given were including microbiology and parasitology. Therefore, our pioneer staff who worked incredibly hard were both microbiologists and parasitologists. After the founding of Faculty of Medicine on September 9th 1972 (B.E.2515), 16 medical students whom selected from sophomore science students were the first class of the faculty. At that time the department had been separated into department of microbiology and department of parasitology, leading by the same head department. The department moved from the first temporary office to the new place (Faculty of Public health) in 1975 and then to the recent building in Faculty of Medicine in 1982. In 1993, the department had the first M.Sc. student class. Up to the present time, the department had granted 6 master degrees in medical microbiology. The department is responsible for teaching microbiology to second and third year of the Faculty of Medicine as well as second year students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Science, Nursing, Public Health. Apart from teaching the students in health-science center, the department also teach third and fourth year students of Faculty of Science. Nowadays, there are 20 academic staff including 11 Ph.D., 10 M.Sc.. Six of the department members are doctor of medicine. Furthermore, there are 14 support staff in the department.
ประวัติและความเป็นมา
พ.ศ. 2514-2517 : เริ่มจัดการเรียนการสอนที่เกี่ยวข้องกับจุลชีววิทยา (และปรสิตวิทยา) ตั้งแต่ปีการศึกษา 2514 โดยมีที่ตั้ง ณ ตึกเคมี ชั้น 2 (เก่า) คณะวิทยาศาสตร์ ให้แก่นักศึกษาคณะพยาบาลศาสตร์ คณะเกษตรศาสตร์ และคณะศึกษาศาสตร์ และเป็นช่วงที่อยู่ระหว่างการจัดทำหลักสูตรปรีคลินิกสำหรับนักศึกษาแพทย์
พ.ศ. 2517-2520 : หลังจากที่ได้มีพระราชบัญญัติจัดตั้งคณะแพทยศาสตร์ (9 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2515) และเปิดรับนักศึกษาแพทย์รุ่นแรก ในปีการศึกษา พ.ศ. 2517 จำนวน 16 คน ได้มีการดำเนินงานต่าง ๆ ของภาควิชาจุลชีววิทยา (และปรสิตวิทยา) โดยมี นพ.สมบัติ ชัยเพ็ชร เป็นหัวหน้าภาควิชา และมีอาจารย์รุ่นแรกที่รับผิดชอบทางสาขาจุลชีววิทยา เช่น อาจารย์นวลจันทน์ ชิตตะโสภณ และอาจารย์ปราโมทย์ ทองกระจาย ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2518 คณะแพทยศาสตร์ได้ย้ายจากสำนักงานชั่วคราว คณะวิทยาศาสตร์ มาที่ทำการคณะแพทยศาสตร์แห่งใหม่ (คณะสาธารณสุขศาสตร์ในปัจจุบัน)
พ.ศ. 2520-2524 : ช่วงนี้มีการบรรจุอาจารย์ทางจุลชีววิทยามากขึ้นเป็นลำดับ และมีการเรียนการสอนแยกกันชัดเจนระหว่างสาขาจุลชีววิทยา และสาขาปรสิตวิทยา โดยมีหัวหน้าภาควิชาจุลชีววิทยาคนแรก (ที่ไม่รวมกับภาควิชาปรสิตวิทยา) คือ อาจารย์นวลจิรา ภัทรรังรอง (ปัจจุบันอยู่มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์)
พ.ศ. 2524-2557 : ในปี พ.ศ.2525 คณะแพทยศาสตร์ได้ย้ายที่ทำการมาอยู่ ณ อาคารคณะแพทยศาสตร์ในปัจจุบัน โดยภาควิชาจุลชีววิทยาอยู่ที่อาคารเตรียมวิทยาศาสตร์คลินิก 2 ชั้น 5 (ภาควิชาชีวเคมีในปัจจุบัน) ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ.2536 จึงได้ย้ายมาอยู่ที่อาคารเตรียมวิทยาศาสตร์คลินิก 3 ชั้น 5 จนถึงปัจจุบัน รวมทั้งได้เริ่มเปิดการเรียนการสอนในระดับบัณฑิตศึกษาหลักสูตรจุลชีววิทยาทางการแพทย์ ซึ่งปัจจุบันมีนักศึกษาที่กำลังศึกษาอยู่มากกว่า 60 คน ส่วนในระดับปริญญาตรี นอกจากสอนนักศึกษาแพทย์แล้ว ยังสอนนักศึกษาในศูนย์วิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพ อีก 4 คณะ และนักศึกษานอกศูนย์วิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพ เช่น คณะวิทยาศาสตร์
